Courthouse Archives

Courthouse The Architectural Studies Program is
committed to providing ongoing and insightful research opportunities for students and scholars. H.H. Richardson's Allegheny County Courthouse is Pittsburgh's most significant and widely-recognized architectural achievement. Allegheny County deposited archival drawings and papers related to the Courthouse at the University of Pittsburgh Archives Service Center. The collection includes drawings and plans submitted for the 1883 architectural competition, as well as Richardson's working drawings (dating from the construction period, 1884-1888).

The AS Program is working to utiilize this incredible resource so that students, scholars, and community members will be able to easily explore the history of this structure. Hopefully, the program will be able to sponsor an exhibit and publish a catalog as well.
